💛 The Man Behind the Name (Dad's on the right!)
Sonnie's Salon is named after my dad, Sonnie.
Born in Cahersiveen, County Kerry, Ireland, Sonnie came to England at just 14 years old as the eldest of the family, determined to help support those he loved back home.
From a young age he understood the value of hard work, responsibility and putting family first – qualities that have stayed with him throughout his life.
Despite building his life in England, his Irish roots have always remained close to his heart. To this day, one of his greatest joys is spending time with his younger brother John Joe. The two are still the best of friends, often found farming together, attending local farmers markets in Bakewell , Ashbourne and Buxton, keeping everyone entertained with their stories and sense of humour.
Sonnie taught me that kindness costs nothing, your word should mean something and that if a job is worth doing, it's worth doing properly. Those values have shaped not only who I am, but also the business I have created.
Although he never imagined his name would one day be above the door of a dog grooming salon, the values he passed on are woven into everything we do.
Sonnie's Salon is more than a business; it's a reflection of family, loyalty, hard work and treating others with kindness and respect.
Every wagging tail, muddy paw and happy dog is a reminder of the man who inspired it all.
